Review:
The Young Elites was one of the most anticipated books of 2014 since it was written by Marie Lu, the author of one of the most hyped dystopian series ever. I loved her previous works, so it was no surprise that she made me fall in love with this one as well.
Here are several things I loved about this novel:
I know for sure that I'll be recommending this book to all my friends at school despite their lack of interest in the genre of Sci-fi or Fantasy. Therefore, I'm recommending The Young Elites to you, too!
The Young Elites was one of the most anticipated books of 2014 since it was written by Marie Lu, the author of one of the most hyped dystopian series ever. I loved her previous works, so it was no surprise that she made me fall in love with this one as well.
Here are several things I loved about this novel:
- This isn't a story of a hero. This is a story of a villain. We would never see the main character save the day in this book. It would be more like she was saving someone else so that other people won't lash out on her and blame her of everything that happened to that 'someone'. Also, what's more to love than a story of a villain struggling to blend in with other people who doesn't know she's a villain?
- Adelina Amouteru, our main character, is a total badass! She stands up for herself and isn't afraid to use her power to protect those she loves and to torture and kill those she loathes. She has this amazing power that basically will be in its peak moment every time she's in a place filled with total horror, anger, hatred, fury, and anything bad and wicked you can name. She also has this anger, fear, strength, and darkness inside her that are waiting to be used against people. Oh, did I already tell you that she's physically scarred? She's actually good-looking, but not to the point of getting us overwhelmed with her beauty.
- The romance is so light and buoyant that I just want to rip them off the page and hug them because they are just too cute! It's not the kind of romance that's filled with heated make out sessions and smut scenes that literally make me want to throw up, but the kind that makes me squeal in delight every time they interact with each other. Wait, I'm not actually sure whether it's romance or not. But, whatever relationship the two of them have, I totally ship it.
- One of the main narrators, Raffaele, is a male prostitute. He is our main character's best friend and his personalities are literally hard to ignore. He's beautiful, yeah, of course, he's a prostitute. He has a gentle heart, he's sweet, caring, and actually wants a better life. He's actually a really good friend. He takes matters responsibly and never acts carelessly.
- The actual villain, Enzo, is complicated as fvck that we'll literally want to split his head in two just to see what his brain's actually filled with. He's the kind of villain that's so unpredictable and I always find his presence daunting, even though I was just literally reading his presence from a book, I literally felt like he was somewhere lurking in the corner and chills always went up my spine when I read his interactions with Adelina. It was like I could really feel her fear radiating off the pages.
- The actions are so intense and kick-ass. I mean, really, the descriptions felt so real that I felt like I was in the middle of chaos somewhere with masses of people surrounding me. When it is the part when the main character watches other people fight, I dreaded the moments when my favorite character would fall. It all just felt so real.
I know for sure that I'll be recommending this book to all my friends at school despite their lack of interest in the genre of Sci-fi or Fantasy. Therefore, I'm recommending The Young Elites to you, too!
